For the time poor, and mechanically simple; can someone do a quick write up of this setup.
What is needed to purchase (parts, models) |
The calipers are front subaru L series ( the round body shape before the boxy shape). The brackets from roc70y. Rear rotors off a gq patrol. M12x 50mm bolts x 8 from memory, posible m10's, can't remember. from memory you need 80 series front brake lines ( the ones that go from the hub to the housing) to adapt the caliper to the existing hilux hard lines.

| What is needing to be modified (cutting, welding, handbrake cable) |
Remove all existing brake assembly so you are left with a bare axle with no brakes or backing plate. I never bothered with the hand brake but subaru front cables were the correct length to reach the hilux hand brake lever that is mounted on the drivers side underneath the car. From memory a bracket had to be fabbed up to adapt the two. I left the proportioning valve as is and i worked well.

Bleed lines, i used an 80 booster and MC and i don't know whether the hilux set-up would be sufficient.
Good luck guys.
It worked great for me and i hope works well for you all. With the front brake set-up that i had i could lock up all 4 36" tyres at 60 km's if i wanted.
Cheers
Joel

So long as it is fully bolt up (removable) and proportions correctly I am very keen depending on price.
*edit* An estimated price would certainly help though. |

Why GQ rotors?
For those asking I have subi calipors and early hilux rotors on the back of mine and have had them for about 5 years. They are on my engineers report and were not even slightly hard to get passed. |

From what i have read on this board the hilux discs are not the right back spacing and require a spacer welded to the mount to line the caliper up. With GQ the spacer is not required, This is only what i have read.
I may be intrested in 2 sets (tow rig and buggy) depending on $$. Dont thing it would be hard to sell a few more to non outerlimits guys that i know either.
Pic dosent work, why is there 2 brackets aside??
Thanks Shane |

The subaru front calipers that are used have the handbrake built in. |

FANTASTIC THING YOUR DOING HERE STUMPY!!!!!!!!!
Im keen (its got to be better then stockdrums) but what abount hand brake. Do the callipers have cable actuation for this? What super-poo are the callipers off? Does the brake cylinder need Moding?
Cheers SASS
One other thing if you are only going to make a set number of these and its first in best dressed (and your doing this non proffit) what would be the chance of posting up printable copies of the templates your using so that people who dont get in can still find a local engineering shop to knok em up for them? |
